LANDFILL ENERGY SYSTEMS COMMENCES OPERATIONS AT ERIE, COLORADO 3.2 MW LANDFILL GAS-TO-ENERGY PLANT
NOVI, MI – November 17, 2011 – Landfill Energy Systems (“LES”), a company owned by various funds managed by Energy Investors Funds (“EIF”), announced today that it has commenced operations on a landfill methane-fueled renewable-energy power plant located in Erie, CO. The 3.2 MW facility consists of two Caterpillar G3520 engine-generator sets consuming biomethane from the Denver Regional North, Denver Regional South, and Front Range landfills owned by Waste Connections. Electricity is sold to United Power Cooperative under a long-term agreement. Enough power is generated at the plant to provide electricity for approximately 50 percent of the homes in Erie.
“This is an exciting day for LES as we commence operations on our latest project,” said Richard DiGia, President and CEO of LES. “We’re happy to be working with our partners at Waste Connections and United Power Cooperative, as well as officials from the town of Erie who have been extremely helpful during our development and construction process. This plant creates local jobs, brings reliable, renewable energy to the local electric grid, and reduces CO2 emissions equivalent to more than 5,000 cars annually.”
The Erie plant is the 38th plant owned or operated by LES, which holds the rights to 45 landfills in 16 states, producing over 200 MW of base load renewable electric power and renewable natural gas. These projects reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 9 million tons per year.

About Energy Investors Funds
EIF was founded in 1987 as the first private equity fund manager dedicated exclusively to the independent power and electric utility industry. Its consistent, proven investment strategy is to create geographically and technologically diversified portfolios of electric power-related assets that provide superior risk-adjusted equity returns with current cash flow and capital appreciation. As an investment manager, EIF seeks to mitigate commodity risk (fuel and electricity) by focusing primarily on acquiring power assets in the United States that have long-term off-take contracts. EIF has mobilized over $4 billion in capital raised in eight funds, and currently manages five private equity funds from its offices in Boston, New York, and
San Francisco. These funds have made over 100 diversified investments that have an underlying asset value greater than $15 billion. EIF has over 3,675 MW of capacity in operation and under construction, as well as an additional 2,875 MW under development. For more information visit www.eif.com.
